Our Forest School Ethos
Forest School is an inspirational approach that offers opportunities, through small, achievable tasks. Children achieve and develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem in a natural, outdoor environment.
Child-Initiated
As Forest School leaders, we plan “focus activities” each week on a given theme, however it is optional whether the children choose to participate. The children lead us and show us what they want to do and learn in the sessions. Sessions are adapted to meet the individual interests and needs of the children.
Long- term approach
Children benefit most from weekly sessions, lasting a minimum of two hours; usually in blocks of six weeks. This is why a six week block of sessions is offered at Woodland Rangers, for both our Home educated children and our Adult and Preschooler stay-and-play groups .
Risk taking
At Forest School, children are given the opportunity to engage in supported risks such as fire lighting, tree climbing and using tools safely. These risks are managed responsibly by qualified practitioners.
Holistic Development
At Forest School the children develop a range of skills including communication and language skills, fine and gross motor skills, emotional and cognitive skills.
